SAS Corresponding Secretary
As we begin the 2021-22 year, we would like to introduce our new SAS Second-Vice President Arthur “Art” Rothschild.
Art along with his wife Vikki live in Racine where they raised their sons Barry and Benno. However he grew up in Muskegon, Michigan where he was on the debate and wrestling teams at Mona Shores High School. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a BA in Psychology before attending Wayne State University Law school. After law school his first job was as a Tax Specialist which led him to attend Walsh College where earned his CPA license while working for Coopers & Lybrand, Detroit. He has worked for Landass & Company in Milwaukee for 30 years and 25 years ago did additional study/testing to become a Certified Financial Planner. His current occupation is an Investment Advisor which he says is his most interesting job. Not only does he enjoy working with clients helping them to manager their money portfolio, but he has been writing an investment column for 25 years as well as participates with his firm’s podcasts.
When asked what his connection to Scotland or the Scottish culture is, he reports that he has fond memories of his maternal grandfather singing Scottish drinking songs and quoting Rabbie Burns. This grandfather came to the US from Canada and Art believes that he is probably his Scottish connection, though he has done no family research to confirm the connection, but he definitely embraces the Scottish Spirit. He joined the Society because of his friendship with SAS member Dub Brown, after Dub suggested that he drink something less tasteless (vodka) by suggesting he try Scottish Whisky. Dub and wife Janet invited Art and Vikki to a Burns Banquet and the rest is history; especially after attending his first whisky tasking which evolved to him enjoying his favorites: Bruichladdich, Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Ledaig.
When asked if he belonged to other organizations he has been involved religious organizations and as an involved father he supported his sons activities coaching their soccer teams which led to his involvement in the Racine Soccer Organization being an active member serving on their board. Has been an avid skier since the age of 15, still taking annual trips to Colorado to ski. Though he has traveled to Europe he has yet to visit Scotland. He reports that he and his two sons took an awesome trip to Costa Rica a few years ago where their activities included ziplining and a jungle river cruise. Other domestic trips have included visits to Florida, Las Vegas and Arizona to visit family and friends.
As a member he has attended our member meetings (in -person and online), our Burns banquet and of course our Whisky tasting. Finally, as a member of the society has been pleased to see the society grow our commitment to our mission to Relieve the Distressed and looks forward to participating in this important aspect of the society. We are thrilled to have Art has chosen to be on the board bringing his experience and desire to be part of growing our membership and activities.
